Professional Program

Our professional program is designed for students who are committed to pursuing a career in classical ballet or contemporary dance. The focus of this program is to develop each student into a complete dancer, and multi-faceted artist, while preparing them for the world of professional dance.

Entrance to the pd programs are by acceptance only. Interested parties need to contact galien@hwballet.com to set up a drop in class to audition. If this is not possible, the student must submit photos in the following positions: tendu a la second, first arabesque, and if on pointe then fifth en pointe with arms in fifth en haut. These can be submitted to galien@hwballet.com as well.

Our post-graduate program is for students that have graduated from high school and are looking for extra training to improve their skills and to prepare them for auditions. Entrance to the post-graduate program is by acceptance only. Interested parties must contact galien@hwballet.com to set up a drop in class to audition. PD one

Welcome to our Professional Division.

In PD1, students will train intensively in both classical ballet and contemporary dance. Developing strength and understanding in both forms is a must for all aspiring young dancers. Dancers in this program will excel in their understanding of ballet technique and musicality while developing their artistry under the care of our H/W teachers. We work with each student as an individual and help them to achieve their personal best as we progress through the year. Dancers at this level will have the opportunity to compete in the Youth American Grand Prix should they be so inclined.

Students in this program will receive the following classes per week:

  • Ballet
  • Pre-Pointe
  • Contemporary
  • Character
  • PBT

Training days will be as follows:

Monday: 4:45-7:35

Tuesday: 4:45-7:00

Thursday: 4:45-7:30

Friday: 4:45-7:30

H/W students who are currently in PD1 and Grade 5 should enrol in this level for the 2023/2024 school year.

PD two

The second level of our Professional Division will see students continuing to develop in their command of classical ballet and contemporary dance. Students will gain deeper mentorship with their coaches and grow in their artistry, technique, and confidence.

Training four days per week, students in this program will receive classes in Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary, and PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique)

For the coming school year classes will run as follows:

Tuesday:4:45-7:30

Wednesday: 4:45-7:45

Thursday: 4:45-7:45

Friday: 4:45-7:30

*Current H/W PD2B students should register in this level

 

PD three

$8105.00 + gst

At this level, students will be training intensively Monday through Saturday and will be mentored by our H/W directors. The students' dance education is well rounded to include not only classes in technique and artistry but also in dance history and repertoire.  

This combined level includes students who are enrolled in grades 10 and 11 in school. These students will train daily from 1pm to 4pm, as part of a high school partnership program. Students will attend high school in the mornings and attend H/W to train in the afternoons. Students in this program also have the option to take high school classes through online schooling. This grade will receive the following classes (per week):

  • Ballet
  • Contemporary
  • Pointe/Variations
  • Flamenco
  • Male Technique
  • Dance History/Repertoire
  • Pas de Deux
  • PBT

PD four

POST GRADUATE PROGRAM

Dancers in this program will be mentored by the H/W directors and staff in all aspects of their training and development. We work closely with our students at this level to help them achieve their dreams. Dancers will receive assistance with the creation and filming of audition videos as well as with help in learning to write a resume and how to plan an audition tour. Entrance to this program is by audition only and dancers must have a strong understanding of ballet technique to be considered. Dancers in this program will receive the following classes per week:

  • Ballet
  • Contemporary
  • Pointe/Variations
  • Pas de Deux 
  • Choreography
  • Dance History/Repertoire
  • Body Conditioning
  • Philosophy of Dance
  • Flamenco

SHORT TERM STUDIES

Students looking for an intensive training opportunity that will expand their technical, artistic, and performance abilities while working with our esteemed staff will find great benefit in joining one of our short term study programs. These studies run three times per year.

Fall: September 10-December 21

Winter: January 7-March 30

Spring: April 1-June 22

Students who are accepted into one of these study groups will train daily with our Post Graduate, PD4 and PD3 students in a variety of classes like Ballet, Pointe and Variations, Contemporary, Choreography, Dance History and Philosophy, Body Conditioning, and Pas de Deux. They may also have the opportunity to join our full year students in some of our school performances.

Students must be between the ages of 16 and 21 to be considered.
