Thank you to all who voted us Calgary's Top Choice Ballet School for 2021!

 

Our mission since we founded the school has been to establish a new standard of dance instruction in Alberta by allowing students to learn directly from experienced professional dancers, and it is great to see our plan coming together.  We will continue to work tirelessly for our students, our parents and our great city to remain the best, and to reach greater heights.

 

Thank you to each of our directors and all of our staff for your unwavering dedication in making H/W something to be extremely proud of.  Thank you to all of the families throughout the years who have supported H/W to help become the school we are today.

 

Humble, strong and motivated.  Exciting things to come.

New Season, new collaboration

Our Artistic Director, Yukichi Hattori will be choreographing for Calgary Philharmonic orchestra again.

The students of H/W school of Ballet will be sharing the stage with Galien, Tara, Yukichi and the entire orchestra.

We can't wait to see this!

New Programs added

We are excited to announce the addition of new programs for the 2019/2020 school year!

First up is our new Boys Program for PD level gents. The students will train daily with their female counterparts as well as receiving male specific training from our Artistic Director and ballet star Yukichi Hattori. This is a unique opportunity to train with such a gifted technician and artist! Please find program details in the Professional Division section.

Our second new program is our Teen Recreational program. This course is seasonally based and is geared for dancers age 12-16 who are looking for high quality ballet training without the commitment of enrolling in one of our professional division classes. Program details can be found in the Junior/Recreational section of the website.

Our final new offering for the 2019/2020 school year is Princess Ballet. This class is for young dancers between the ages of 2.5 and 4 and will introduce them to the basics of ballet, creative movement, and music in a fun and magical environment. For program details please visit our Junior/Recreational page.

FREE Classes!

Come try us out!  

We are offering FREE classes for our junior age groups.  We welcome those with and without experience.  Let's just move together in a fun and engaging atmosphere. 

To help prepare us, we would prefer if you register by sending an email to info@hwballet.com.  Bring as many friends as you want!

 

Dates for classes:

May.5

June.2

July.7

 

Age Groups and Times:

12:00pm-1:00pm: Primary (Ages 4/5) and Grade.1

12:00pm-1:00pm: Grades.3/4

1:15pm-2:15pm: Grade.2

1:15pm-2:15pm: Grades.5/6

 

Please wear a bodysuit and tights for girls and shorts and a t-shirt for boys.  If your new to dance, moveable clothing is acceptable.  Ballet shoes are preferred but if you don't have those, socks (no wool) will be allowed.

Open advanced level Classes are here!

We are happy to announce our new open class series.

Starting January 2019, we will have advanced level Ballet, Contemporary and Hip Hop classes.  Whether you are an advanced level student, a pre-professional, a professional, or an adult that use to dance, these classes are designed for everyone to come together, remove the judgement and just move! Drop ins are welcome, but if you buy a 10 class pack, you will get one class for free.  This pass is usable for all three genres of classes!  

 

Class times are as follows:

Hip Hop- Mondays from 7:30pm-8:30pm (*Please note* This class begins Feb.4)

Contemporary- Wednesdays from 7:30pm-8:30pm

Ballet- Fridays from 7:15pm-8:45pm

 

Pricing:

Drop In- $18

10 Class Pass- $162, that's one class free!

The BLUE Gala

After two successful years of this event, The BLUE Gala returns for the third year with a performance and reception not to disappoint.  Check out the auction before and after the show and make some bids as all of the proceeds from the this will be donated to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter.  Meet the dancers with a glass of wine in hand and some delicious hors d'oeuvres, all while wearing your best blue outfit.

We have performers from all over Canada such as:

• Myriam Simon & Alessio Scognamiglio (principal/corps dancers, Les Grands Ballet Canadiens)
• Harold Rancano & Regan Hirose (latin dance artists, World Bachata Champions, RHR Latin Dance Company)

Our most recent performance is up online for everyone to watch! We performed last month with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate 150 anniversary of Canada on stage. It was a beautiful collaboration of music and dance. Our students danced beautifully and did the country proud. Please feel free to share. Enjoy!

Yukichi performing at Fluid Festival

Our Students of Professional Division students, Galien and Yukichi will be performing at the Fluid Festival on October 19 & 20.

The piece will be choreographed by Yukichi and is part of a triple bill. The other choreographers are Lesley Telford and Wen Wei Wang, both of which are extremely established artists.

We are so honoured and excited about us being part of a performing arts of this caliber in our hometown.

Masterclass with Ballet BC

Learn from Ballet BC's Racheal Prince!

Now in her 12th season with Ballet BC and having previously danced with the Alberta Ballet Company for 4 years, Racheal is an extremely experienced professional artist with exceptional attention to detail and persona in her dancing.  We invite you to attend this workshop to further explore the body through contemporary ballet and have the privilege of learning some of the repertoire that Ballet BC performs.

This masterclass is open to all intermediate/advanced level dancers from throughout the city (and beyond).  To pre-register, go to our "Contact & Registration" page and fill out the "How can we help you ~ Register for program" section.

After a sold out show last year, we are delighted to announce the second annual Blue Gala on February 3, 2018!

This year we have even more celebrated artists from across the globe, exciting hip hop, ballet, ballroom, tap and contemporary collaborations.

Mingle with the Artists at the Gala reception afterwards with drinks, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction in support of Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

New Location!

After much searching, we are delighted to announce that we have signed a lease for 2 beautiful studios in a historic, red brick building in Currie Barracks (2633 Hochwald Ave. S.W.)!  We will be spending the next few weeks renovating the space and adding in those special H/W touches in order to have it ready for our senior summer school, which starts on August 14th.  Follow us on Instagram @hattoriwilliamson as we post updates of our progress!

Breakfast Television

Galien, Tara and a group of aspiring students from the school got a chance to speak with Jill Belland at Breakfast Television to introduce Calgary to the Hattori/Williamson School of Ballet. Not only did they share information about the ballet school, what makes it different, and what to expect as a student of the school, they also got to demonstrate the different levels of dance offered. In addition, they shared information about the BLUE Gala event on Saturday, February 18th at DJD Dance Centre.
